Journey to vegetable heaven

Our little lifestyle block has always had lots of potential.
It just needed a bit of a shake up but now we're slowly making dreams become reality.

The vegetable garden is a prime example.
With around 5000sq.m of land in which to choose where to place our future produce store - it was certainly a topic we had to debate... for about 2 minutes.

The perfect spot was
lying within sight of the house, depending which window you looked out of and how far you could turn your head, and was near enough to be near but far enough to be not near. If you know what I mean.

With two outbuildings close by to form part of the boundaries, the area would be of a good size and get all day sun whilst being sheltered from the wicked southerlies.

And so we set to.

The site in question needed quite a lot of clearing before we could get constructing but eventually we got to a stage where we could build six free standing raised beds and one that ran alongside an old shed. So seven lovely big veggies beds to get planting in.

The photos below show the veggie garden through to the completion of stage one.
A future post will bring you up to date with how the garden looks now, with details of the changes we made in stage two (we always change SOMETHING!) and the new additions made (very exciting!).

And yes... we gets lots of lovely fresh veggies to eat :)
