When your youngest child turns into a teenager

Yesterday we celebrated the 13th birthday of our youngest child.

She has two older brothers who passed into teenage years many moons ago and it seems that although I have three children, I no longer have a 'child'.

My people are all growing up and moving on from play doh, face paints and whoopee cushions....

Actually - that's not at all true - they all seem more than happy to return to typical childhood habits and pastimes when there is the slightest excuse to!

Miss13's birthday celebrations started with a family breakfast and a towering stack of pancakes topped with birthday candles and greeted by smiling faces :)

Golden days of autumn

We've had a fairly mixed autumn here in New Zealand so far - we've had sunny days and rainy days and then some extreme rainy days...

Who knows their mushrooms?

The invasions of the mushrooms continues.

I first mentioned our fungi inundation on the blog in Much room for mushrooms - and we have had a very pretty and unusual display going on over the last few months - but on today's walk down to the mailbox I saw the latest group of fungi that have decided to bring their fun and pretty selves to have a garden party at our place.

Golden delights of mushroom-y-ness

I have NO idea what this variety of mushroom is but it is captivating with it's shiny golden surface glinting in the sun and tempting you closer.

I'm certainly not rushing to eat them but would love to know more about them so if you are a fun guy or gal with a passion for fungi - let me know your pearls of wisdom on these delights!

Have you ever had a pumpkin cookie?

I have to say that when this recipe was first given to me I was not 100% sold on the idea - but seeing as we had just harvested over 100 pumpkins (see Plenty of Pumpkins) I certainly thought I could spare some and so gave the cookies a go.

They are quick and easy to make and WOWSERS! They are good!!
I'm recording it now on the blog partly for my own filing of the recipe as these beauties were delicious and I'll certainly be making them again!

The pumpkin certainly adds a nice hint of orange colour but there's little to no pumpkin taste to speak of. The cookies are light and airy and disappear very quickly!

Here's the recipe with, as usual, notes on the tweaks I made...

Dogs and shoes but no chews

The small white dog with a small brain (we do love her immensely but this is what she tends to get called!) otherwise known as Pip, has an obsession with shoes as mentioned in her introduction post.

So this is a pretty regular sight in our house....

A dog crate - containing a dog - a kitten - and two shoes

She doesn't chew them at all just likes them for comfort - and perhaps she thought Meer Cat might need one too.

Bless :-)
